Differentiated Instruction

Kathi Shaw's MyEport Discussion Board items:

A major part of the high school reform deals with changes in instruction. To achieve this, next year all TUSD high school teachers will be trained in Differentiated Instruction and expected to practice with the Instructional Coach.

I think a huge part of this is having the same vocabulary when we work with teachers. Also, as ICs we are going to really have to be careful how we approach this with these high school teachers. It will definitely be a challenge.

What a great idea, Kathi! To err is NOT to differentiate! I feel comfortable differentiating in my own
classroom; it just seems natural. However, I really feel the
need to do an intensive workshop. I have used MI and, tiered instruction
for several years. However, I feel that training a core group of people at my
school would require more resources. This year, we had a PLC that studied DI.
Now, we are ready to begin the process of implementation. I want to go to that
workshop in Las Vegas. I downloaded the brochure and its just a treasure
trove of the coolest sounding workshops. Have you attended that conference, Kathi?
Perhaps you could recommend a great conference to help train us to train others?
Love you, Kath!

Knowing that you will be expected to train teachers about the different components of Differentiated Instruction, how comfortable are you with your current knowledge base?

As we look ahead to next year, what are some ways you've seen teachers differentiate instruction in their classrooms already?
